FAQ
Where do I get my API key?
Sign in above, then click "Create API account & key". Your key is shown once, right there on screen — copy it immediately using the Copy key button. It cannot be displayed again after you leave or refresh this page.
I forgot to save my key / lost it. Can I see it again?
No — SigVerify never stores your plaintext key, only a one-way hash of it, the same way Stripe, AWS, and GitHub handle API keys. Nobody, including SigVerify support, can retrieve a lost key. Click Rotate API key to issue a brand-new one — this is the only way to recover access.
What does "Rotate API key" do?
It immediately generates a new key and permanently invalidates the old one in the same step. Your credits, verification history, and account status all stay exactly the same — only the key itself changes. Update the key in your server code right away, since the old one stops working instantly.
What's the difference between "Rotate" and "Revoke"?
Rotate swaps your key for a new working one — use this for routine key hygiene or if a key may have leaked. Revoke disables API access entirely with no replacement key issued — requests return 403 api_key_disabled until you're reactivated. Revoke is for pausing/shutting down access, not for recovering a lost key.
Can SigVerify admins see or hand me back my key?
No. The admin panel can only see the first few characters of your key (enough to identify which account is which in a support conversation), never the full secret. This is intentional — it's the same reason your key can't be recovered by anyone if lost.
How do I check my remaining API credits?
Once signed in, your credit balance, total verifications, and account status are shown right here in the API credits tile above. You can also check programmatically — every successful /v1/verify response includes an X-SigVerify-Credits-Remaining header with your balance immediately after that call.
What happens when I run out of credits?
/v1/verify starts returning 402 insufficient_credits until you buy more from one of the plans below. Nothing is charged automatically — you top up manually, and there's no free credit tier.
Is a verification credit consumed if the request fails?
No. A credit is only deducted after Panda successfully finishes verifying your PDF. A timeout, network error, or server error never consumes a credit.
What's the rate limit, and what happens if I exceed it?
Each plan has its own requests-per-minute limit (shown in the pricing table below). Going over it returns 429 rate_limit_exceeded with a Retry-After header — just wait and retry, no credits are consumed.
How do I know if the API is currently up?
Check the status pill in the top-right of this page (and the docs page) — it polls live and shows API live or API unavailable. It updates automatically every 30 seconds.
Where's the full technical documentation?
See the
API Docs page for endpoints, request/response formats, error codes, and rate limits in full detail.
